Replace the rockers: 1990s Oneidas

Each power limb rocks on a half-moon rocker in a pocket at the riser end, held by the weight bolt and its plastic washer. Oneida's catalogs call it the Verton limb pivot. Changing them means taking the limbs out.

  • Difficulty Advanced
  • Time About 1–2 hours (estimate)
  • For 5 Oneida models

Our aluminum rockers are listed for these models and the LF Magnum. Tomcat II, Phantom II, Tomcat III and H-series, ask us.

All how-to guides

We're still double-checking this guide against how we do it in the shop. If anything doesn't match your bow, stop and text us or call 270-318-2020.

Before you start

  • Never use a regular compound bow press on an Oneida.
  • Count weight-bolt turns.
  • Unhook cables only with ALL the weight off.
  • Never draw the bow with the timing screw loose. Never dry-fire.
  • Check the cables for broken strands while they're off. Wear safety glasses.

Steps

  1. Loosen the timing screw, then take all the weight off, switching bolts every 2 turns and counting.
  2. Take the string off and lay the bow sight-window side down, riser toward you.
  3. Pull the clips and clevis pins to unhook both power cables.
  4. Loosen each saddle screw just enough to free the yoke cable.
  5. Pivot each limb toward you near the hinge until the rocker clears its pocket, and slide it out.
  6. Remove the old rocker. Oneida's catalogs say the Verton pivot is anchored by studs; ask us how ours comes off and goes on.
  7. Fit the G-String aluminum rocker to the power limb.
  8. Grease the rocker pockets lightly.
  9. Feed the power limb through its yoke loop and under the plastic bolt washer so the rocker settles in its pocket.
  10. Lay the yoke cable in the saddle slot under the screw head. Repeat at the other end.
  11. Wrap each power cable around its cam nose and pin it into the clevis.
  12. Restring, check the grooves, and turn the bolts back to your count, switching every 2.
  13. Final check: timing cable flex, tiller, timing screw tight, brace height, alignment, saddle screws. Draw a few times and let down slowly.
  14. Check the plastic washer didn't end up under a power limb if the bow comes up light.

Tips

  • Oil the hinges while the limbs are off. (Dealer Instructions p.18)
