Care and safety

Lube and care: 1980s–90s Oneidas

Only a few spots on a pylon Oneida need oil: the pylon bearings, the hinges, the idler wheels and a short stretch of each power cable. A drop is plenty; wipe off the rest.

All how-to guides

We're still double-checking this guide against how we do it in the shop. If anything doesn't match your bow, stop and text us or call 270-318-2020.

Before you start

  • Use a drop, not a squirt. Extra oil collects grit.
  • Do this with the bow at rest; no bolts to turn.

Steps

  1. Get a bow lube: Oneida recommended Rusty Duck or Tri-Flow.
  2. Put a few drops on the pylon needle bearings.
  3. Put a drop or two on each hinge now and then.
  4. Put a few drops on the idler wheels.
  5. Put one drop along the 2 in of each power cable that bends over the back of the cam.
  6. Wipe off the extra after every spot.
  7. Wax the string every so often.
  8. Still noisy? Work down Oneida's list: loose accessories, a loose timing cable, brace height, string accessories, arrow slap, a dry hinge, loose saddle or hinge screws (a click) or the yoke touching the limbs.

Tips

  • Some camo paints make cables squeak. (Dealer Instructions p.38)
