Tuning and setup

Change draw length: Black Eagle and newer Oneidas

Newer Oneidas use small letter modules (E, F, G, J) and number modules (12, 15, 18) in the cams to set draw length and let-off. On a Kestrel you also reset the PDC draw stop afterward.

  • Difficulty Moderate
  • Time 30–45 minutes
  • For 13 Oneida models

From the Black Eagle and Kestrel manuals. The C.P. bows and Phoenix/2017+ Osprey use the same modules on Oneida's charts; so do the Extreme Eagle, Falcon and Switchblade, on the later C.P. booklet's chart.

All how-to guides

We're still double-checking this guide against how we do it in the shop. If anything doesn't match your bow, stop and text us or call 270-318-2020.

Before you start

  • Measure your draw length with a helper and a marked arrow.
  • Pick your module from your model chart: letter modules give higher let-off, number modules lower. Each size covers about 3 in.
  • Kestrels ship with F modules; Oneida's later booklet shows F on the Phoenix and 2017+ Osprey too.
  • Wear safety glasses. Never dry-fire.

Steps

  1. Kestrel: make sure you have all 4 modules and they're all the same shape.
  2. Black Eagle: read the letter or number on the back and snap the module you need off its runner.
  3. Slide the module's flat side lightly across fine sandpaper to remove the molding burr.
  4. Loosen the cam set screw.
  5. Remove the old module: Black Eagle, push it away from the cable toward the axle; Kestrel, pull the rear cable back slightly and nudge the module out with an Allen.
  6. Fit the new module: Black Eagle, top of the letter toward the grip; Kestrel, grooved side toward the cable, pressed gently until it lines up with the cam grooves.
  7. Snug the set screw without over-tightening.
  8. Repeat for every module position so all modules match.
  9. Never draw the bow unless every module is properly installed.
  10. Let down slowly with your bow arm straight and your face back.
  11. Kestrel: set the PDC draw stop. A helper loosens the Allen screw on the opposite side, you draw to anchor, they rotate the PDC until its nylon screw touches the cam and snug it; let down and tighten it.
  12. Phoenix and 2017+ Osprey: follow the Kestrel steps, including the draw stop, until we confirm.
  13. C.P. Oneidas, Extreme Eagle, Falcon and Switchblade: follow the Black Eagle steps.
  14. Check brace height against your model page.

Tips

  • Pick arrow stiffness by the arrow's real length even with a rest behind the riser. (Black Eagle Manual p.2; Kestrel Manual p.5)
  • Re-check arrow flight afterward with 'Tune your arrow flight'.
