Strings and cables

Replace the string: Stealth Eagle

The Stealth Eagle has no slotted timing screw and uses extra-long weight bolts. Back the bolts out until the string is slack, swap it, press each power limb back into its end cap, then bring the weight back a few turns at a time.

  • Difficulty Moderate
  • Time About 45 minutes (estimate)
  • For 1 Oneida model

From Oneida's Stealth Eagle owner's manual and 2.0 dealer bulletin. Many Stealth parts, including the weight bolts, limbs and hinge pin, don't swap with other Oneidas.

All how-to guides

We're still double-checking this guide against how we do it in the shop. If anything doesn't match your bow, stop and text us or call 270-318-2020.

Before you start

  • Oneida lists one string length for the Stealth. Order the length on the Stealth page.
  • Don't swap in weight bolts from another Oneida. The Stealth's are extra long.
  • There's no timing screw to loosen. The Stealth's timing is set at the factory.
  • Never use a regular compound bow press on an Oneida. It can badly damage the riser and void the warranty.
  • Wear safety glasses.

Steps

  1. Lay the bow on a padded table with the string toward you.
  2. Back both weight bolts out, switching ends every 2 full turns and counting, until the string is slack. Oneida's bulletin strings the bow with the bolts backed 'all the way out'.
  3. Stop before the bolts come completely out of the bow. If the string still isn't slack enough, call us.
  4. Take the old string off and fit a new one of the same length.
  5. Seat each power limb in its end cap: draw the limb toward you with one hand while the other presses the end cap onto it.
  6. Turn the weight bolts back in a couple of turns at a time, switching ends and watching that both limbs stay seated, until you're back to your count.
  7. Check tiller by feel: press each timing cable where it leaves the large timing wheel. If one side feels looser, take a little weight off the loose end or add a little to the tight end until they match.
  8. Measure brace height and compare it with the Stealth page. Twist the string to raise it or untwist to lower it.
  9. Put on a new nocking point (see 'Set your arrow rest and nocking point').
  10. Keep oil out from between the limb and the end cap, and leave the 3M foam tape on the end caps and behind the saddles in place.
  11. Confirm both limbs are seated and nothing can block the outboard limbs before the first draw. Never dry-fire.

Tips

  • A dry-fired Stealth may need new limb pockets before the limbs seat right. (Stealth Eagle Instructions p.6)
  • Oneida's Stealth warranty didn't cover the string. (Stealth Eagle Instructions p.2)
